LUCA VENITUCCI

A multi-instrumentalist, improvisor and composer, Luca Venitucci has been active in the field of new and experimental music for more than thirty years.

With piano, accordion and singing he has developed a highly original expressive approach, focused on the intensity of live performance and on a variegated sound research in which extended instrumental techniques, electronic devices and unconventional sound sources are also employed.

His music is characterised by an intuitive synthesis of compositional and improvisational aspects, which draw and re-elaborate / rework elements from a wide range of genres, styles and approaches: free improvised music, contemporary jazz, popular music, folk, songwriting, post-cagean experimentalism and concrete and electroacoustic music.

In 1995 he founded the electroacoustic improvisation group Ossatura, together with Fabrizio Spera and Elio Martusciello, with whom he has released several albums and toured in Europe, Usa and Canada. Other projects which he has taken part in include 7k Oaks with Alfred Harth, Massimo Pupillo and Fabrizio Spera, Michael Thieke’s Unununium quartet and octet and the experimental accordion trio 300 Basses together with Alfredo Costa Monteiro and Jonas Kocher.

In 2002, as a member of the Berlin based Ensemble ZeitIkratzer and together with Ulrich Krieger, he transcribed and orchestrated Lou Reed’s experimental composition Metal Machine Music, which he then performed with the same ensemble and with Reed as a guest musician at Berlin’s MaerzMusik Festival and at the Malibran Theatre in Venice.

His most recent project is Genera with Dario Miranda and Ermanno Baron, a piano-bass-drums trio expanded with extended techniques, little instruments and electronic devices.

Among the numerous musicians and composers with whom he has collaborated there are Peter Kowald, Phil Minton, Jack Wright, John Butcher, Mike Cooper, Otomo Yoshihide, Thomas Lehn, Franz Hautzinger, Isabelle Duthoit, Ingar Zach, Tim Hodgkinson, Dagmar Krause, Chris Cutler, Amy Denio, Michael Renkel, Axel Dorner, Annette Krebs, Sabine Vogel, Burkhard Beins, Bertrand Denzler, Michael Thieke, Ignaz Schick, Mazen Kerbaj, Sharif Sehnaoui, Alfredo Costa Monteiro, Jonas Kocher, Michiko Hirayama, Jerome Noetinger,  Alvin Curran, Giorgio Battistelli, Jon Rose, Christian Calon, Gene Coleman, Keith Rowe, Radu Malfatti, Masami Akita/Merzbow, John Duncan, Anne Gosfeld, Luigi Cinque, Boris Kovac, Alessandro Bosetti, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Bruno Tommaso, Eugenio Colombo, Mario Schiano, Cristiano Calcagnile, Edoardo Marraffa, Fabrizio Puglisi, Francesco Bigoni, Marco Colonna, Giovanni Maier, Danilo Gallo, Zeno De Rossi, Pasquale Mirra, Gabriele Coen, Sebi Tramontana, Paolo Angeli, Luca Tilli, Giancarlo Nino Locatelli, Alberto Braida.
